FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Registration FAQ

Who can participate in our football, and cheer programs?

Any child age 5-14. We do not hold tryouts, and ALL children play!

Does my child really have to be at registration??

YES! Every participant, whether it is tackle football, or cheerleading MUST be at registration with a parent or LEGAL guardian. All football players must be weighed for proper division placement. No child is turned away because of weight. All cheer participants will be fitted for uniforms. A photo will be taken of each child for the required photo ID. In our experience, parents who try to guess their child’s weight and/or uniform size are rarely correct.

What happens if we miss all the registrations?

The completed forms and required documents may be mailed in along with a check for the full registration fee. The weight certification will then be handled at equipment distribution. Incomplete forms or missing documents will prevent us from registering your child. Keep in mind also that any requests to be placed with friends or siblings stand less of a chance of approval with late registrations.

Can we sign up now and pay later?

Due to the nature of this sport, there are a large number of expenses that must be paid before the season even begins. We are not able to register any child without payment in full at registration time. However, no child will be turned away due to legitimate financial hardship. Any child receiving free or reduced lunches through the schools may have their registration fee waived or reduced upon providing documentation to their local association.

After I pay my registration fees are there any other fees involved?
Yes. All participants have miscellaneous items that parents are responsible for purchasing, like socks, shoes, etc. Some of these are ordered as a group to take advantage of volume pricing, others are items that can be purchased locally.

All participants have the potential to be involved in post-season play. Ultimately, parents are responsible for all transportation, lodging and meals involved.

Can girls sign up to play football with the boys?

 YES!

I want all my kids on the same team. Can this be done?

If their ages and weights all fall within the guidelines for the same division, yes. Please see our divisions section for the age/weight matrix.

Note that cheer participants are NOT subject to the weight requirements; they are placed solely by age.

Football FAQ

When does the season begin and end?

Practice starts the last Monday of July, and the season starts August 1 and could go into the third week of November. The game schedule is set by the League, and will be announced as soon as we have it. Please do not nag your coach for it!

How much time is involved in football?

It is a BIG time commitment on the part of both players and parents. For the first 2 weeks practice is as much as 5 times per week for 2 hours each practice. After that date, you will have practice 2-3 times a week.

Isn’t it really hot out in August?

It sure is! It is imperative that your child drinks plenty of water during the football season. This includes the night before practice and during the day before practice. Water is provided at practice, but it is not a substitute for good hydration throughout the day.

What is the game schedule?

All regular-season games are scheduled to be played on Saturdays. Generally, the first regular-season game is on the last Saturday of August, though some teams play in a ‘jamboree’ the weekend before. There are games Labor Day weekend. We typically do not receive the game schedule until a couple of days before the first scheduled game, and there are frequent changes made to the schedule immediately after that. We do not have any control over the schedule or when it is disseminated. The regular season usually runs through the first weekend in November for all tackle teams.

Is tackle football too rough for my child?

Only you and your child can answer this one. CCAYFL provides training to help insure that coaches are knowledgeable, well trained individuals with the abilities to teach proper technique and skills. All equipment is inspected and in condition to provide proper safety for all players. But, keep in mind....this is tackle football. It is not a sport for every child. Please discuss this with your child and any of our Board members prior to registering if you have specific concerns.

Do we have to buy all the equipment?

No. We provide a uniform, pads, helmet, and one mouthpiece. Parents are responsible for additional mouthpieces and other personal items.

What equipment do I need to buy?

Your child will need to get a pair of football cleats, socks, a cup and athletic supporter. There may also be other incidental items you wish your child to have.
